New candidates begin their journey to Knighthood by attending a First Degree exemplification where they learn the lesson of charity. The exemplification usually occurs on a weekday night.
Following the First Degree ceremony, a candidate is considered a Brother in the Knights of Columbus, receives a lapel pin (depicted below), and can participate in all Council activities.
